The Line-Up for 11-9-2012

Part of me feels like I'm procrastinating about reviewing all this year's releases. Part of me is still recovering from last week. I'm not saying these shows are lacking, I'm just saying I have a lot on my mind. Dave Douglas Quintet - Whither Must I Wander? I still need to get around to listening to Be Still, but I do know that with all the good press I've read, it's a high priority. Space Ghost - 3 Weeks Jesse Fischer & Soul Cycle - Midnight Dancer I really have been enjoying Retro Future lately. ERIMAJ - Black Super Hero Theme Song It's astounding how often this song comes to mind on any random day. This may just be my actual theme song lately. Karriem Riggins - Tom Toms Steve Lehman Trio - Pure Imagination I wanted to make an angular set lately so it seems whenever I do, I make a Lehman/Threadgill sandwich. Henry Threadgill's Zooid - Tomorrow Sunny I'm often trying to find just to right time to play some Henrth Threadgill's Zooid. I picked this week for that time. Toro Y Moi - Sweet The Bad Plus - Seven Minute Mind I think I love Made Possible a little too much. Nah, that's crazy talk. Christian Scott - Liar Liar I replayed Christian aTunde Adjuah this week. It still holds up quite well. Hiatus Kaiyote - Nakamrarra () Troyka - Rarebit Are you hip to Troyka (a band that's been on my periphery but whose stuff I don't have anything of yet)? Have you copped the latest Label Love compilation? Don't sleep.

About a month ago, Patrick Jarenwattananon of NPR's A Blog Supreme  put together a group of lists of recent gateway jazz albums from prominent young jazz enthusiasts and bloggers.  The Jazz Now Project was a rather brilliant idea and opened up a lot of discussion and awareness about the future of jazz and really shows what the field looks like right now.  Early on the the culmination of this project, Jarenwattananon opened the submission of suggestions not only to those he specifically asked but also to other readers of the blog and on the email list.  So it didn't take me long for me to submit my own Jazz Now list .  (And special thanks to him for linking the post on the compilation of Jazz Now submissions. I got my highest hit count yet of 29 readers because of him. I really need more readers.)
